ENCYCLOPEDIA-CHINA-EUROPE RAILWAY
1. Definition and basic information
China-Europe Express refers to an international railway combined transport train for containers that runs between China, Europe and countries along the Belt and Road according to fixed train numbers and routes.
Route network: It has formed three channels: western, central and eastern. The western channel mainly exits from the central and western parts of my country via Alashankou (Horgos); the central channel exits from North China via Erenhot; and the eastern channel exits from the southeastern coastal areas of my country via Manchuria (Suifenhe). These channels connect many European cities, such as Duisburg and Hamburg in Germany, Warsaw in Poland and many other important transportation hubs and economic centers in Europe.
Types of transported goods: It covers a wide range of commodities. Including electronic products (such as computer accessories, smart phones, etc.), mechanical products, auto parts, clothing and textiles, chemicals and agricultural products. For example, European auto parts are shipped to China via China-Europe Express, while Chinese electronic products and textiles are shipped to Europe.
2 Historical background and development process
The prototype of China-Europe Express can be traced back to 2011. At that time, the first China-Europe Express (Chongqing-Duisburg) was successfully launched. This was mainly in line with the changes in the international trade pattern and China’s need to strengthen economic ties with Europe.
As time goes by, the number of trains and coverage has continued to expand. From dozens of trains per year at the beginning to thousands of trains per year now. More cities have joined the ranks of departure and terminal stations of the China-Europe Express, and have also made many progress in transportation organization, customs facilitation and other aspects.
3. Significance and Impact
For China: It has promoted the economic development of China’s inland areas. Many inland cities have developed logistics industries because they have become nodes of the China-Europe Express, attracting related trade and manufacturing companies to settle in. For example, Chongqing’s laptop industry can more conveniently transport products to the European market because of the existence of the China-Europe Express. At the same time, it has strengthened trade between China and Europe, promoted the sales of Chinese products in Europe, and also helped China import high-end equipment and technology products from Europe.
For Europe: Some industrial cities in Europe can better open up the Chinese market through the China-Europe Express. Manufacturing companies like Germany can use trains to transport products, reduce transportation time and costs, and enhance the competitiveness of their products in the Chinese market. At the same time, it also reduces some of the freight pressure on European port cities and promotes the optimization of logistics within Europe.
